A book of ficion that is based on a factual time in history. With the excepton of a "what if' description of the escape of Adolf Hitler at the end of W.W. Interwoven into an action-filled plot is a love story that develops between an American Army officer and a beautiful German woman.

From the Author:
This is a story that is an accentuated love affair involving a 45-year-old American Army officer and a young German woman. Interwoven into the novel, and narrated in third person, is a 'what if' version of a plan for the escape of Hitler during the spring of 1945. The love story is the main theme, although a sub-plot is included that adds an action-filled background. The setting is Germany at the end of World War II. The characters are described in a tone that is compatible with the times. After being stalked by death and other tragedies for years, a different philosophy was created among the survivors. Deplorable losses, including friends and loved ones, homes, and nearly all other possessions that would normally hold people together, had taken away former attitudes and reasonings. People learned to grasp quickly the good things that were left, hold tightly to whatever they could get that was meaningful. And, when the rare opportunity to love again occurred, it became the most treasured possession of all.
From the Inside Flap:
World War II has just ended and a small group of diehard Nazi generals have managed to elude capture and are hiding out near the small German town of Bad Welmsburg. Refusing to surrender to the victorious allies, the generals have fabricated the death and are plotting the escape of the most wanted Nazi of all -- Adolf Hitler. As the German officers map out the escape route to South America and look forward to the Nazi Party's return to power, Major Max Gordon of the American Military Government meets Ariane Wegner, a beautiful young German woman, who is also the wife of General Karl Wegner, one of the conspirators. A love affair soon develops between Max and Ariane. Meanwhile the scheming generals spin a web of violence and cold-blooded murder. But as their plans begin to fall apart, the fanatical leader of the group becomes more and more desperate. Eventually he devises a ruthless course of action that includes the murder of General Wegner, and in an effort to lead the Americans in the wrong direction, he insures the blame will be placed on Ariane. The story covers a short period of time and the characterizations, both factual and imaginary, are based on people and events that might have been observed in Germany in May of 1945. At the end, we are left with a haunting question -- could it have happened?
