Reprint of the 1982 edition of a memoir that stems from an autobiography found in recording impresario Walter Legge's files by his wife, singer Elisabeth Schwarzkopf. She describes her role as "a narrator of sorts guiding the reader through that uplifting, exciting, infuriating, and sometimes frustrating world" where Legge battled with recording companies in order to promote the work of musicians he admired in the days before corporate profit dictated such decisions. About the Author:

Elisabeth Schwarzkopf is an internationally renowned soprano who specializes in the works of Mozart, Strauss, and Hugo Wolf. She lives in Switzerland. Herbert von Karajan (1908-1989) was one of the greatest and most celebrated conductors of the twentieth century. Peter G. Davis is the classical music critic for New York Magazine and the author of The American Opera Singer.
