The contributors?professors, librarians, and freelance writers?attempt to update the traditional "how to write a term paper" and "how to use a library" guides for the electronic age. Aimed at high school and undergraduate students, the book features chapters on "traditional" aspects of writing a paper (selecting a topic, using print sources and library catalogs, citing sources, etc.), plus a chapter each on CD-ROMs, online services, and the Internet. Of these, the "low-tech" parts are excellent, the others less so. The chapters on electronic sources too often include specific commands, lists of available resources, or a rehash of Internet basics, while effective use of electronic resources for research (e.g., search strategies) is virtually ignored. Nevertheless, this book provides lots of information in one concise, readable package.
