Retired USMC Major Charles D. Melson details the activities of Marine Corps units who were departing from Vietnam in 1971. But hopes that the South Vietnamese would continue to fight successfully after the U.S. departed were crushed after the North Vietnamese launched a full invasion. U.S. Marines were called back to Vietnam and continued to fight until January 1973.
The War That Would Not End describes the actions of these brave U.S. and Vietnamese Marines. Includes descriptions of American prisoners of war and their capture and release dates. It also discusses social issues from racial hostility, to drug and alcohol use, to desertions.

About the Author:
Major Charles D. Melson took part in the Song Than and Lam Son series of landings in Vietnam with the 9th Marine Brigade and was cited for achievement and combat action. He was deployed again during the October War in the Middle East and in 1982 he was selected as an instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy. He researched The War That Would Not End while serving at the Marine Corps Historical Center and served a temporary assignment with the U.S. Central Command during the war with Iraq. He is a writer and history instructor and holds a Master of Arts degree.
