This signature Hunter series targets travelers eager to really explore the destination, not just visit it. Extensively researched and offering the very latest information, Adventure Guides are written by knowledgeable, experienced authors. The focus is on outdoor activities -- hiking, biking, rock climbing, horseback riding, downhill skiing, parasailing, backpacking, waterskiing, scuba diving -- and these user-friendly books provide all the details you need, including prices. The best local outfitters are listed, along with contact numbers, addresses and recommendations. A comprehensive introductory section provides background on history, geography, climate, culture, when to go, transportation and planning. The books then take a region-by-region approach, plunging into the very heart of each area and what adventures it offers, as well as a full range of accommodations, historical sites, walking tours, museums, shopping, restaurants for every budget, and festivals.Pristine waters, rugged slopes, breathtaking seascapes, remote wilderness, sophisticated, cities, and quaint, historic towns. Year-round adventures on the Fundy Coast, Acadian Peninsula, fjords of Gros Morne, Viking Trail & Vineland, the Saint John River, Lord Baltimore's lost colony.

From Library Journal:
The Rogerses (New Hampshire: Off the Beaten Path, Globe Pequot, 1998) have written a bulky guide to active vacations in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland. Outdoor activities like dogsledding, snowshoeing, kayaking, and horseback riding are featured, and less active options such as seal and whale watching, museum visits, and walking tours are also included. There is advice about places to stay and eat. Suggestions for further reading are interspersed throughout the book. Paradoxically, though the authors cover a lot of ground, only thumbnail sketches are provided. All entries mention addresses and phone/FAX numbers, but opening hours are not always provided. Nevertheless, this is a good book to consult before departure. Recommended for large public libraries.ARavi Shenoy, Hinsdale P.L., Naperville,

Review:
If you've already "done" the major tourist places of Canada, perhaps it's time to give some thought to lesser-traveled areas like New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Labrador. [The Adventure Guide to] Canada's Atlantic Provinces, by Barbara Radcliffe Rogers and Stillman Rogers, is an excellent guide to this region for sightseers and adventurers. Beginning with a discussion of the geography, ecology, and history of the entire region, the authors move on to each province, leaving no physical or cultural stone unturned. Preferred accommodations and restaurants are threaded throughout all the descriptions. Highly recommended. -- Passport Newsletter Book Review, June 1999
