Nic and Jules (three-time Academy AwardŽ nomineeAnnette Bening and four-time Academy AwardŽnominee Julianne Moore) are married and share acozy suburban Southern California home with theirteenage children, Joni and Laser (Mia Wasikowska andJosh Hutcherson). Nic and Jules—or, when referredto jointly by Joni,"Moms"—gave birth to and raisedtheir children, and built a family life for the four ofthem.As Joni prepares to leave for college, 15-year-oldLaser presses her for a big favor. He wants Joni, now18, to help him find their biological father; the twoteenagers were conceived by donor insemination.

About the Author
Director/co-screenwriter Lisa Cholodenko was also the director/screenwriter for High Art and Laurel Canyon. Her third directorial feature was Cavedweller. Co-screenwriter Stuart Blumberg also wrote the script for Keeping the Faith and co-wrote The Girl Next Door.
