Synopsis
Designed for preservice educators, classroom teachers, behavioral support staff, and counselors, this work presents a framework for implementing positive behavioral support (PBS) with K-12 students with challenging behaviors. It reviews the ethical, theoretical, and historical background of PBS, and examines the characteristics and processes of PBS, such as person-centered planning and the role of relationships. It walks through an entire PBS protocol, and shows how to enhance PBS practices through peer tutoring and task modification. Many vignettes are provided to illustrate techniques.
