Terms defined in Auto Dictionary include the jargon of such motorsports as racing and hot-rodding as well as engineering terms and brief histories of major automobile manufacturers. Only terms that are universally understood and have been around long enough to be presumed permanent have been included. Specifically excluded are specific model names and personal names, including nicknames, unless used in another definition. Within these restrictions, the list attempts comprehensiveness.

The arrangement is alphabetical, letter by letter. The dictionary began as a vocabulary for persons for whom English is a second language. Definitions are remarkably readable, considering their brevity and the technical nature of many of them. Clear and attractive photographs and illustrations further clarify the definitions but are not always to be found with definitions they illustrate. The definitions are followed by a source bibliography. The author has worked as a mechanic, machinist, engine designer, and teacher of automotive technology.

Public libraries will want to consider purchasing this book, as will technical school libraries. Some high school libraries where interest in automotive matters is high may also want it.
