About the Author
In 1983, Christina Pirello was diagnosed with an acute form of leukemia. With little prospect of help from conventional therapies, she turned to a nutritional program using a whole foods approach. Now, after more than 15 years cancer-free, Christina teaches whole foods cooking classes, lectures, and broadcasts her message via her public television show, "Christina Cooks." She and her husband, Robert, also publish a bi-monthly natural foods magazine, Macrochef. Christina has been featured in the weekly food column in The Philadelphia Inquirer Magazine, Newsweek, and First for Women. She is a member of the advisory and editorial board for Taste for Life magazine, and a faculty member of the Restaurant School of Philadelphia where she is the director of the Whole Foods Academy. Her book Cooking the Whole Foods Way is published by HPBooks.

Pirello is the host of public television series Christina Cooks the Whole Foods Way and the author of Cooking the Whole Foods Way. In a cheerful, down-to-earth style, she explains the macrobiotic diet, which she credits with curing her of cancer; recommends foods to avoid or use in moderation; includes recipes for soups, grains, beans, vegetables, desserts, and home remedies; and provides a primer for diagnosing one's health by looking in the mirror. Although Pirello makes nutrition claims that she does not back up with research data, and many of her recipes contain hard-to-find ingredients such as kombu and kuzu, her innovative recipes for such attractive and tasty dishes as Phyllo Bites, Tuscan Bread Soup, and Spiced Pecan Baked Apples make this book worthy of the attention of anyone interested in the macrobiotic diet.
