The ancient legend of White Buffalo Woman has been shared in different ways by many tribes, but the central belief remains the same: a helpful spirit becomes a white buffalo, heralding the return of prosperity to her people, where needs are met and hopes fulfilled.
The chances of a white buffalo being born is one in ten million; when this event actually occurred in the United States in the 1990s, the white calf was named Miracle.
