This is a book filled with practical wisdom about how to live today. It is a book on how to be fully human.
An old saying goes, "Life is a journey," but Rabbi Gold proposes that life is actually ten very different journeys. We all travel most of them and many of us travel them all, even though we may travel them in a different order. Different journeys may become crucial at different times in our lives. We may even successfully complete one of these journeys, only to discover later that we must begin that journey again.
The Ten Journeys of Life is a guide to being human-a veritable pathway into the basic essence of humanity. Rabbi Gold takes us through an exploration of these journeys using Abraham the Biblical patriarch as a mentor. Based on ancient and timeless principles, the insights and wisdom within these pages are both contemporary and essential.
What makes this book even more meaningful are the "Guideposts for Your Journey." After each chapter, the author concludes by sharing advice and spiritual guidance to help navigate each path.
The Ten Journeys of Life is a treasury of wisdom, fulfilling and consequential. Through it, we learn what it means to really be human and attain true success, but travel we must.

His weekly spiritual message goes to hundreds of readers throughout the world. Rabbi Gold can be reached through his web site at www.rabbigold.com.
Gold, a rabbi who is the author of And Hannah Wept and Does God Belong in the Bedroom? describes 10 journeys that spiritual seekers must go through to reach maturity and become the people God intends them to be. Using the story of the patriarch Abraham as told through the Torah and midrash (rabbinical legends and commentary on the Torah), Gold explains the 10 trials that Abraham endured as he became fully human and encountered different aspects of God's personality. Gold describes God as a parent, teacher, lover, provider, creator, shepherd, dwelling place, helper, judge and partner. Gold ends each journey with "guideposts" thought-provoking questions and commentary designed to apply to readers' own lives. The material covered here is excellent, providing more substance than self-help books that are more self-centered. Gold explains that to become fully human one must go from childhood to adulthood, from self-indulgence to self-control, from loneliness to love, from sustenance to abundance, from frailty to health, from pain to healing, from doubt to faith, from self to community, from sin to atonement. Finally, one must prepare to journey from the temporal to the eternal life. Gold wrote this book after hundreds of counseling sessions with members of his synagogue and with those not of the Jewish faith. While the flavor of this book is in the Jewish tradition, anyone seeking spiritual enlightenment will enjoy and profit from it.
