Nader formed the Center for Auto Safety in Washington, D.C. in 1970 and in the same year produced his first Lemon Book consumer manual on automobiles. That first edition spurred legislation for auto safety (including state "lemon laws"); the second edition, noting these changes, was called "an excellent resource guide" by LJ 's reviewer ( LJ 1/1/81). This third edition has an introduction by Nader outlining new legislation since the second edition and offers advice on buying, driving, maintaining, and, when necessary, complaining about an automobile. A listing of state lemon laws is included.
