The market for CD-ROMs tripled in 1994, with new products being developed at a rapid rate. In this easy-to-read guide for consumers, Hall discusses the use of CD-ROMs in schools, the workplace, at home, and in public places such as libraries and stores. She mentions several hundred titles, using screen captures as illustrations. For example, Hall describes NoteStation, a kiosk with CD-ROMs containing sheet music for 4,500 songs that can be printed out on demand. Additional chapters cover other compact disc formats such as CD-I and PhotoCD. Lucid explanations of how CD-ROMs work and how to shop for them will make this book useful in public libraries serving a computer-literate community. Teachers and librarians will learn from it, too.
