Now we have Seaman's account, based on his diaries written while in Lennon's employ as personal assistant from 1979 until Lennon's untimely death in 1980. For Lennon fans, there is really nothing new here. In fact, no matter what one may have thought of Albert Goldman's The Lives of John Lennon (Morrow, 1988), it said about everything that could be said. What separates this treatment from others is the controversy surrounding it--Seaman was charged by Yoko Ono with stealing Lennon's diaries after Lennon's death. He was sentenced to five years probation, yet proclaims his innocence in the book's afterword. The diary style is well served here as Seaman reveals the day-to-day minutiae of the Lennon lifestyle, and what emerges is a sad portrait of a tormented man. Recommended.
