Here she presents a thorough guide on the topic, combining anecdotes, discussion of research, and practical advice to prevent or reverse overindulgence and its effects. Ellis describes the social mores and typical personal profile that often lead to overindulgent child rearing. She discusses by age group (preschool through young adult) what levels of maturity and responsibility can be expected and provides checklists to aid in identifying parental overindulgence and underdeveloped child responsibility. She also discusses reasonable parental approaches to the problems experienced by children in each age group. An appendix lists suggested children's reading materials.
