Grade 4-6-The large format, slick paper, clear full-color photos and drawings, combined with brief descriptions of materials and instructions should make this an excellent choice for children. However, many of the activities are quite complicated and demand a level of skill completely out of line for beginning crafters. A double-page spread is devoted to each activity, which means that much information must be inferred from the general directions. In describing the construction of a "glove puppet," readers are told to "Draw a pattern for the body on paper." They are not informed as to how to measure to be sure it fits, nor told where or to what it is attached. In the section on "Clays and Doughs," kiln clay is mentioned, but in the project descriptions, children are told to use "potter's clay." With over 30 projects in less than 90 pages, this is a browser's book, not a how-to guide.
