Walter Foster Publishing began as a one-man business in the 1920s, when Walter T. Foster, well known as an accomplished artist, caricaturist, art instructor, and art collector, began producing self-help art instruction books from his home in Laguna Beach, California. He originally wrote, illustrated, printed, bound, packaged, shipped, and distributed them himself. In the 1960s, as his product line grew, he moved the operation to a commercial facility, which allowed him to expand the company and achieve worldwide distribution. Although Walter passed away in 1981 at the age of 90, he is fondly remembered for his warmth, dedication, and his unique instruction books.

About the Author:

Lori Lohstoeter considers herself extremely fortunate to be working as a full-time artist.

Raised in Arkansas, Lori was a shy child who found refuge in art classes. As her creativity bloomed, so did her confidence. With the help of parents who encouraged and nurtured her talent, she grew determined to become an illustrator.

Lori received her Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. With a strong determination to follow her dreams, she moved to California and completed a second degree t the Art Center Cole of Design. within a few years, she relocated to New York to pursue a freelance illustration career. She has won numerous awards for her illustrations in children's books, and her acrylic work is known for is vibrant brilliancy.

Lori now lives in Rowayton, Connecticut, where she has a studio with gallery space that she's filled with her colorful renderings of New England seascapes, old fishing boats, and salty marshes. She hares her seaside life with a wonderful family and three plump cats.
