From the Introduction: I was more than a little skeptical .... As we sat in the Riffels' living room, I changed my mind. Tib had been having recurring and troubling dreams. Within an hour, Herman and Lillie helped her understand what her dreams were trying to tell her, not only abut the conflicts within herself, but about her relation to God. Their secret? First, they keep things simple. The Riffels avoid esoteric dream-interpretation jargon. Dreams, they point out, unroll as a series of pictures. Every child understands pictures. Grasping a dream message is a mater of recapturing a skill we once had and ... too often ... have lost ... we feel we have a whole new way of communicating.

From Chapter 7: The kind of attitude we show toward the dream is the kind of response we will receive from it. The dream is like a friend. Treat it well, and a friendship will flourish and bring great returns. Act indifferently toward it, and the relationship will not grow. If we will listen carefully to our dream, write it down, take time to listen to it, follow its instruction, and include it in our journal, it will become a friend and counselor.
