Davis's simply written text profiles Chavez's humble beginnings on an Arizona ranch, the poverty he endured throughout his childhood, and his many accomplishments, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, awarded in 1994, following his death. Archival black-and-white photographs document the strikes and boycotts along the road to the inception of the Migrant Farm Workers' Union in 1962.
