Steven Weissman won the Harvey Award for "Best New Talent" in 1998 (for Yikes), and Fantagraphics Books is proud to present his first original graphic novel, Champs! Weissman may well be the reincarnation of Hal Roach, creator of Our Gang and Laurel & Hardy serials Like Roach, Weissman crafts hilariously charming stories revolving around a gang of precocious and adventurous children (the Tykes). Unlike Roach, Weissman's "kids" each have their own supernatural features: there's Li'l Bloody, the vampire toddler; X-Ray Spence with his, well, take a guess. Think Our Gang meets the Universal Monsters, with a tad of Speed Racer and Peanuts thrown in for good measure! You'll be thrilled as you see the Tykes take on Johnny Takagi in the Big-Wheel races and horribly amused at the tiniest toreador in the world!

About the Author
Steven Weissman has published his Yikes! graphic novel series through Fantagraphics; Marvel Comics, Nickelodeon magazine, and many other media outlets have also featured his work. He is the recipient of the industry's Harvey Kurtzman Award and lives in Los Angeles, CA with his wife and son.
