Advent? the season in which we prepare for the coming of the Savior? provokes a certain ambivalence among modern believers. We know that Christ has come in the historical person of Jesus of Nazareth, and we live anticipating his return, knowing that our true home is one which he has gone ahead to prepare for us. In the meantime, we are left living between those two worlds. Moorehead uses the witness of the scriptures, her wealth of experience in long years of ministry, and the wisdom of her own life of prayer to guide us in praying the ambiguity of living faithfully between ? here and now? and ? there and then.

KATE MOOREHEAD is an Episcopal priest and mother of two. She has been an active leader in Gathering the NeXt Generation, a grassroots movement among Generation X clergy and lay leaders in the Episcopal Church. She is currently the rector of St. James Church in Wichita, Kansas
One is tempted to read the book all the way through at one sitting. Don't. Don't spoil four weeks of refreshment, teaching, challenge, expectation and rest. Morehead's choices of scriptural pericopes are telling. I am particularly taken by her choices on December 23 and December 24. They are a wonder of biblical paradox and will cause the mind to wait with expectation to see just how the tension is beneficial. . . . Buy this book! (Rev. Jeffrey A. Mackey, The Author ofThe Living Church)
In the midst of the frenetic, non stop pace of our modern lives, Morehead's Advent meditations offer an opportunity to slow our step and thoughtfully ponder our daily walk with God during this season of waiting and preparation for the yearly observance of the Incarnation, the coming of Christ. These brief reflections on the human response to God's great gifts and what the author calls ‘the greatest act of God's love' are well worth our time and our measured attention as we heed the Psalmist's words to ‘wait on the Lord and be of good courage. . . .' (Barbara C. Harris, Bishop Suffragan of Massachusetts)
Buy this book in November, as a gift for yourself and others. Reading and reflecting on Kate Moorehead's daily meditations for the season of Advent will help you to prepare for Christmas not with impatience or frenzy, but with an expectant heart, open to receive the mystery of the Incarnation, and completely dazzled by the wonder of it all. (Rev. Martha Horne, Dean of Virginia Theological Seminary)
