About the Author:
Laura L. Seeley was named the 1992 Writer and Illustrator of the year by the Atlanta branch of the National League of American Pen Women for The Magical Moonballs and the 1990 Author of the Year for Juvenile Books by the Council of Authors and Journalists, for her Book of Shadowboxes: A Story of the ABCs. She has also illustrated Carmen Agra Deedy's Agatha's Feather Bed: Not Just Another Wild Goose Story and Christmas and the Old House by country music star Tom T. Hill. A popular speaker at elementary schools around the country, Seeley lives in Atlanta and teaches at the Atlanta College of Art.

Kindergarten-Grade 3?This is a clever story-in-rhyme, skillfully told in limerick cadence. Through a rich and funny use of language, Seeley introduces the arrogant McSpot, a pompous dalmation who begins boasting of his beautiful spots on the first page. He squirrels away in a hollow tree every spotted sock, sneaker, ball, toy, cap?anything dotted. Last he tosses into the tree an offending stuffed dalmation dog, causing a nightmare that forces him to rethink his need to be unique. The extended dream sequence illustrates the moral of the story and really pushes the point home. Large square, full-color pictures make for easy sharing with groups.
