About the Author

Maryann Zepp, Seattle, Washington, is an experienced instructor in the use of the microwave oven. She is a graduate of Drexel University in home economics education. She has also studied nutrition and the culinary arts at Immaculata College, The Pennsylvania State University, and Johnson and Wales. A former high school teacher and bakery owner, she has developed products and recipes for major food companies in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Washington.

Sample Recipe
Rice and Sausage Casserole
Preparation Time: 20 minutes
6 servings

Microwave on High for 4:00-6:00 (3:20-5:00) minutes in microwavable colander combination or 2-quart casserole:
1 lb. pork sausage, removed from casing
1 small onion, finely chopped
Drain, then layer in 2-quart casserole with sausage mixture:
3 cups rice, cooked
Pour on:
1 can condensed tomato, celery, mushroom, or chicken soup
Sprinkle over top:
1/4 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
Cover and microwave on High 6:00-8:00 (5:00-6:40) minutes.
