They became proficient as engineers and manned the defensive works. They helped repulse the Kilpatrick/Dahlgren raid in March 1864 and bottle up General Butler's troops in the Bermuda Hundred. After Richmond fell they joined Lee's retreat toward Appomattox and fought gallantly at Sailors Creek losing large numbers of men. Includes rosters. Signed by both authors.
