Inside Macromedia Director 6 with Lingo is an outstanding all-around guide to the Windows and Macintosh versions of Director 6, the multimedia authoring tool. Unlike other Director books, the instruction includes both basic and advanced features, and it delves deeply into the intricacies of Lingo, Director's scripting language. It also combines step-by-step instruction with discussions of the various features. The book has a few introductory chapters, but to get the most out of the book you should already be fairly familiar with Director: The writers target both artists who don't know programming and developers who are new to artistic concepts. Topics include planning and testing projects; creating animations; working with multiple casts; and using Director's bitmap, paint, 3-D, text, sound, and digital-video features. There's also thorough coverage of Shockwave and NetLingo, the Internet-specific extensions to Lingo.
