From Booklist

Gr. 3-6. In 1903, labor activist Mary Harris Jones led a 20-day protest march against child labor, hoping to see President Theodore Roosevelt at his Oyster Bay home. Although the marchers dwindled and Roosevelt refused an audience, the event caught the imagination of the press. The book begins with details about the march, but it spends much more time explaining who Jones was, how she came to be an activist, and what child labor was. Photographs of working children and of the march, along with clippings and editorial cartoons that appeared at the time, will attract readers. A list of dates and of sources of additional information will be useful to students. Mary Harris Veeder
