A broad range of core issues is covered, including management and administration, pay for performance, performance appraisals and pay, pay strategies, wage gap and pay equity, indirect compensation, and income replacement programs. The whys and hows of developing library job and pay structures are also covered. Particularly useful is a chapter on laws affecting library compensation. Each chapter has a bibliography, and many have notes or sample documents or both. The short glossary (eight pages) barely scratches the surface of the compensation lexicon. The Handbook succeeds as an introductory text, although administrators, librarians, and staff seeking in-depth information will need to find other resources. RBB
