Grade 5-10-- An exceptionally well-done atlas. Parker's informative, interesting narrative combines definition, explanation, and miscellaneous items. A preface explains how the book is arranged and how some of the photos were taken. The main text examines the body part by part from head to toe, plus "the development of a baby." Each double-page spread follows the same format: an introductory overview, a large full-color diagram of the main topic, plus a variety of small diagrams and color photos around the perimeter, focusing on particular aspects of the workings of that body part. The illustrations are accompanied by extensive captions, along with general items of interest, such as "why you burp" or a brief explanation of palmistry. The pictures are finely detailed and beautifully drawn, and have a profusion of labels on each. The shortcoming here is the predominance of males in the photographs.
