Reviews

Gr. 7^-12. A new addition to the Opposing Viewpoints series, this upholds the quality of its predecessors. Excerpts are well chosen and nicely balanced to present varying perspectives on hot-button issues associated with the subject--among them, special needs, open adoptions, and the rights of birth mothers. From Joss Shawyer's radical feminist view of adoption as a violation of women's rights to Mary-Lou Weisman's arguments that public and private institutions may be the best alternative for troubled children, this is filled with provocative articles on political, social, and moral aspects of adoption. Documentation is stellar; end-of-chapter bibliographies, discussion questions, and organizations to contact are also included. Of interest to pregnant teens as well as to students gathering research material. Stephanie Zvirin
