Gr 9 Up--Dudley has arranged primary source, documentary evidence into six chapters that present differing views of issues and events surrounding the Civil War. For example, in the first chapter, which examines the roots of the war, two significant politicians of the time, Daniel Webster and John C. Calhoun, debate the preservation of the Union. One section focuses on the matter of whether to allow black soldiers to fight; another covers whether to negotiate peace with the South. A valuable one-stop source of primary information.
