Reviews

Gr 9 Up--Affirmative Action is an informative look at the current political debate on this issue. Essays for continuation of these programs stress that data suggests that equal opportunity still does not exist for women and people of color. Opponents argue that Affirmative Action is harmful, as it infers that a position was "given" rather than earned. As a result, discrimination now exists against white males. The various viewpoints in Media provide an enlightening view of the role of the press in political campaigns. Television's strong influence, especially that of CNN, is well debated. These slim "mini" versions of the "Opposing Viewpoints" series are packed with readable, interesting information that promote critical thinking on these contemporary issues. Excellent sources for research.
