Reviews

Can 1,101 pages tell you everything about Windows? Probably not, but readers will be hard pressed to find the missing factoid in this encyclopedia. The authors thankfully break this magnum opus into eight unequal-sized parts. The first section gets you started with Windows, preparing you for work in the second part on the File Manager. The large third segment discusses accessories such as Windows Write, Paintbrush, Recorder, and other tools. Multimedia and customizing software are treated in the middle two chapters, while troubleshooting occupies the sixth chapter. The last chapters deal with installation, files, the keyboard, and other issues. Cross references in the margins make this tome less unwieldy, but illustrations could have been slightly larger to make them easier to read at a glance. If you're seriously into Windows, this sort of reference work will make your day-to-day problem-solving easier.
