This novel of the Korean War reveals that neither man nor country may forget the past--no matter how fervently either might try.

From the Inside Flap:

When John Winston arrived in Korea, he had a glorious, romantic notion of war. During the war, that notion changed . . . he changed. He questioned the sacrifice, the morality, the methods. His questions became convictions. He made his decision. He would live with the consequences.

In the years that followed, John tried to forget the war--to forget what he had done--and what had happened afterwards. But some things would not be forgotten . . . and some people would never forget.

Someone knew his secret and was threatening to destroy his life out of some personal, perverted sense of justice.

John had often pondered the nature of justice, both as an army lieutenant and as a trial lawyer. Now, however, was not his time to judge; rather, it was his turn to be judged.

Again.

Author Daniel J. Meador, the James Monroe Professor of Law Emeritus at the University of Virginia School of Law, recently served as director of a Senate commission studying the appellate court system. Formerly, Meador was an assistant attorney general for the Department of Justice and the dean of the University of Alabama Law School.

In addition to writing numerous books on scholarly legal subjects ranging from the executive branch of the U.S. government to the East German legal system, he is the author of the novel His Father's House, also published by Pelican.

Unforgotten follows the success of this equally ambitious, critically acclaimed first novel, which has been optioned for motion-picture adaptation.

Praise for His Father's House

"Meador's suspenseful debut novel ingeniously melds adventure, Cold War politics, a love story, and a search for roots."
--Publishers Weekly

"Meador's portrait of an American man on a long journey into his father's enigmatic past is engrossing and sensitively told."
--Anne Rivers Siddons, Best-selling author

From the Back Cover:

"Meador's Korean War sequences are splendidly done-accurate in detail both as to the fighting and the men who suffered through it, written with feeling, and extremely evocative of that war to those who experienced it. . . . Held my interest from the first to the last page."
--T. R. Fehrenbach, author, This Kind of War

"A fast moving and suspenseful novel. . . . This uplifting story flows from the rich experiences of the author and results in a formidable tribute to those who served in Korea."
--Hon. Griffin B. Bell, former U. S. attorney general
