About the Author
Jody Heymann is founding director of the Project on Global Working Families at Harvard University. She lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Christopher Beem directs the Democracy and Community and Family Programs for the Johnson Foundation. He lives in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin.

Beem writes with verve, intellectual clarity, and vigor. Jefferson, Lincoln, and both Roosevelts must be glad he wrote this book.
