Review
This large box set represents the state of the art in Perl for 32-bit Windows systems. In this package, you have the Perl core modules, extensions, utilities, and scores of excellent technical documentation. If you want to develop Perl software under Windows NT or other modern Windows environments, you need the Perl Resource Kit-- Win32 Edition.
The CD-ROM is the big news here. It contains the Win32 Perl core binaries, plus PerlCtrl, PerlCOM, PL2EXE, and Perl for Internet Server Application Programming Interface (ISAPI). You'll also find Perl Web-server extensions and the ActiveState Perl Debugger environment. All this is in addition to the examples from the books! Perhaps best of all, the disk holds the language's source files. About the Author
Erik Olson is a renegade linguist who makes a living developing software for Win32 platforms. Erik is currently the chief technical officer at Axiom Technologies, LC, a software outsourcing shop. Erik delivers developer training, system administration, and program/concept development for a number of large-scale horizontal and vertical applications. Working as a program developer since 1986, Erik has implemented a variety of systems ranging from point-of-sales systems to horizontal PIM products to real-time financial market applications. Although much of his work is done in C++, he has particular interests in Web development and scripting languages. Erik coauthored Learning Perl on Win32 Systems with Tom Christiansen and Randal Schwartz.
Brian Jepson is a book editor with MAKE, a hacker, and co-organizer of Providence Geeks and the Rhode Island Mini Maker Faire. He’s also a geek-at-large for AS220, a nonprofit arts center in Providence, Rhode Island. AS220 gives Rhode Island artists uncensored and unjuried forums for their work and also provides galleries, performance space, fabrication facilities, and live/work space.
