Throughout the last quarter of the twentieth century, Columbia University professor Edward W. Said's work has been recognized as a major influence on literature, cultural studies, and Palestinian nationalism. Revising Culture, Reinventing Peace examines the influence of Said's work on issues as diverse as the disability rights movement and the future of the Jewish people, the economics of Orientalism and America's fascination with the cultural history of imperial Britain.

Revising Culture, Reinventing Peace examines the influence of Said's work on issues as diverse as the disability rights movement and the future of the Jewish people, the economics of Orientalism and America's fascination with the cultural history of imperial Britain. Some essays take off in radically new directions from Said's better-known perspectives on the Palestinian national movement; others challenge the claim that Orientalism alone created the field of post-colonial studies. The editors' preface examines the recent spate of attacks on Said's just-published memoir Out of Place. Contributors include: Edward W. Said, Yasmeen Abu-Laban, As'ad Abu Khalil, Naseer Aruri, Timothy Brennan, Deirdre David, Lennard J. Davis, Marc H. Ellis, Atif A. Kubursi, Muhammad A. Shuraydi and John Sigler. Naseer Aruri is Professor Emeritus at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. His most recent book is The Obstruction of Peace: The US, Israel & the Palestinians. Muhammad A. Shuraydi is professor of sociology at the University of Windsor.
