Describes different types of canyons and how they are formed

Gr 2-4--This treatment of these geological formations is rather superficial but covers the basics adequately; readers learn what canyons are and how they are formed, and several famous canyons are discussed. The format is attractive, with full-page, color photos facing text on each spread. However, several of the captions are misleading and/or insipid--a picture of Anasazi cliff-dwellings is accompanied by the puzzling caption, "The sun has turned the soil of the cliff dwellings in Canyon de Chelly a deep red." Not a noteworthy addition.
