This attractive, full-color book is an excellent guide for beginning and advanced Web designers who want to learn all about the .PNG, .GIF, and .JPG graphics file formats. The author, Timothy Webster, explains when it makes sense--or doesn't--to use each format, and he instructs you on how to optimize images saved in each. Before he delves into comparing the formats, he explains all you need to know about graphics, including monitors, bit-depth, resolution, palettes, anti-aliasing, compression, and interlacing. He covers both Windows and Macintosh platforms and refers to Netscape Navigator 2.0 and later and Internet Explorer 2.0 and later, as well as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Equilibrium's DeBabelizer in the book's projects. The hybrid CD-ROM includes project files, the PNG Live plug-in (for adding .PNG support to your browser), graphics utilities, and a demo version of DeBabelizer.
