Following an extensive career in government, corporate service and private law practice, Professor Freer answered the call of The Citadel to bring his experience to the teaching of business law courses in 2004, first as a visiting professor, then as the first John S. Grinalds Leader in Residence (2005-2006). Professor Freer now serves as the first BB&T Visiting Professor in Ethics and Free Enterprise Leadership. As The BB&T Visiting Professor, Prof. Freer, drawing on a lifetime of experience in government, private practice and as a senior officer and General Counsel of Kimberly-Clark and other corporations, teaches legal courses to both cadets and graduate business school students. During his career, Professor Freer has served on many corporate boards of both for-profit, not-for-profit and public corporations. Dr. Freer, an early leader in the field of responsible corporate governance, was chairman of the ABA Corporate Governance Subcommittee of the Section of Business, Banking and Corporation Law from 1980-1982.
