This sophisticated and charming book edited by two Swiss architects surveys the phenomenon of streamlining in transportation design during the first half of the 20th century. It covers ships, trains, planes, and automobiles as well as dirigibles and motor scooters. With its generous illustrations and succinct essays, it reads more like the catalog of a museum exhibition than a straightforward historical text. The photographic material, including a ten-page color portfolio, is especially valuable?chock-full of period detail. The focus is on vehicles, but this book is a MUST for any fans of "Art Deco" design or the "Streamline Moderne" era. This beautifully laid out and presented book is a great supplement to the standard works on this era by Meikle and Bush. It is a joy to read and simply to browserepeatedly! As a design professional, I thought I was familiar with the streamlined era - wrong! Page after page, I was delighted to discover something new and amazing. You owe it to yourself to get a copy of this book, it's an eye-opening tour filled with fascinating visions. Beautifully designed testament to the great age of machines.
