Martha Wickham was born and raised in Connecticut. Educated at Cornell University, she now works in New York City as an editor at a children's book publishign house. She is the author of several books for children and lived in Queens, New York.

Grade 2-5. Lucy, Tomas, Emma, and Kevin are visiting the Amelia Earhart exhibit at the National Air and Space Museum when Lucy is transported through time and becomes Amelia Earhart at the airplane controls?with navigator Fred Noonan beside her?on the last leg of that fateful journey. Lucy hopes to find out what really happened to Earhart, but is transported back to the present before that occurs. Music leads into and out of the time travel portion, alerting listeners to the temporal changes. The sound quality is good. Narrator and character voices are clear and expressive. The dialogue among the four friends in the museum is unattributed, so listeners can't tell who is speaking unless they are looking at the book. Airplane engine, wind, radio static, and storm sounds add atmosphere. The tape does not follow the book, leading to confusion if used as a read-along. The tape can't stand alone. The book, written by Martha Wickham and illustrated by David Lund, can be used alone. The text is clear and concise, and the illustrations have a scratchy, textured look using rich, warm colors and a smoky affect. The map illustration marking all the stops on Earhart's final flight shows just how close the aviatrix came to attaining her goal. The story may spark interest in Amelia Earhart or aviation history.
