Synopsis

Aldar is from the planet Ieaton, where the inhabitants communicate telepathically, consider sex a recreational sport, live extended lives, and honor procreation couplings with spectators. Aldar has come to Earth to present Lareina with a gift that will save Earth humans from self-destruction and change Earth forever, but the oil industry will stop at nothing to see them dead first. Lareina is irresistibly drawn to this alien, a feeling of love that Aldar has felt for Lareina since she was five years old; a love that must not be consummated for fear of certain death for Aldar.

When Lareina came within five yards of the man, a shadow lifted like a curtain, and she could see his face more clearly. She stopped and stared. He had no hair on his head or face. His most striking feature, an indented crease that ran from the back of his skull to the bridge of his nose, looked like a hatchet wound that had healed nicely.
He looked to be approximately the same height as she, short for a man, about five and a half feet. He wore a one-piece dark blue suit with a silver line that ran down the front. His ears lay flat to his head and his eyes were dark and mysterious, accentuated with long dark eyelashes. Lashes a woman would kill for, she mused...
"My name is Aldar."
How odd! She thought she heard him speak, but his lips didn't move.
"Did you say your name is Aldar?"
"Yes, my name is Aldar. I come from a another planet within your galaxy."
Another planet? She could hear his words clearly in her mind, but this time she was certain he didn't speak..
"I am communicating with you telepathically. You are receiving my projected thoughts and I am receiving yours." Aldar moved over closer to her and sat down on a large boulder near the edge of the trail.
Her curiosity superseded any feeling of fear she still had. She sat down on another boulder across the trail from him, anxious to test this new revelation of telepathy. "My name is Lareina," she thought, pronouncing the words slowly in her mind...
Aldar made a gesture toward her with his hand. "I like the name Lareina. Does your name have a meaning?"
"My name means 'the queen', in Spanish. I guess my parents had high expectations for me," she thought, feeling utterly amazed. She knew telepathy was possible, but she never thought she would experience it, not even in her wildest dreams.
"Your parents were intuitively correct in their expectations, Lareina. You have been chosen to receive a gift of knowledge for the people of earth."
"Really? I was chosen?" she questioned out loud. "But why me?" she asked with her mind.
"If you accept the gift, I will reveal the process by which you were chosen."
She shifted, uneasily. "What is this gift?"
"I will teach you how to make a device capable of transforming your world. Before you accept this gift, you must give it careful thought. It will require sacrifice." He wiped his hand over his bald head. His hand appeared normal, but he had no fingernails.
Is it possible? she wondered. "Are you really from another planet?"
Yes, I come from the planet Ieatan.. There are three suns in your galaxy your people call Alpha Centauri. My world circles the second nearest of the three suns. It is four light years from your sun."
"So, if you're from another planet, where's your space ship?"
Aldar removed something from his clothing. He held it over his head. A giant sphere rose up silently behind him and hovered a few feet away. A rush of wind followed it, sending an involuntary shudder through Lareina's body.
The sphere hung, suspended in air, like a magical Christmas ornament, reflecting a rainbow of colors. It appeared translucent and about the size of a small plane from wing tip to wing tip. Wow! What a fantastic sight!" She had never seen anything so unusual and yet so beautiful.. Any doubts she held were dispelled at the sight of the ship.
