About the Author
Annie S. Barnes is a retired professor of anthropology and sociology at Norfolk State University, Norfolk, Virginia. Her previous books include The Black Middle Class Family; Black Woman: A Sociological Study of Work, Home, and Community; and Single Parents in Black America.
