About the Author
Dr. Robert W. Birch has a Ph.D. in psychology and in his 35 + years of practice and teaching had specialized in marital and sex therapy. He has written a clincial manual for sex therapists, six self-help sexuality books, four books of bawdy limericks, and an adult erotic mystery. Now retired, he writes poetry, having published six books of verse, both naughty and nice.

Dr. Wardell Pomeroy, co-author of the renowned "Kinsey Report," has been quoted in the March 1975 issue of Cosmopolitan as saying that oral sex is "...an extremely intimate act of the most loving and giving kind." He goes on to say that "In many respects it is more intimate than 'regular' intercourse and provides the rewards that such deep intimacy can give." This concept of oral sex as a more caring and intimate act, even surpassing penile-vaginal intercourse (coitus), may come as a surprise to some.
