Robert J. Schreiter, C.PP.S, a priest of the Congregation of the Precious Blood, is professor of doctrinal theology at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. His many books include Constructing Local Theologies, The Ministry of Reconciliation, and The New Catholicity.
Struggles with conflict and hope for reconciliation are dominant themes in this theological look at scriptural images of bloodespecially the blood of Christ. Focusing on 12 biblical texts, ranging from Exodus (on the Passover) to Revelation (on the blood of the lamb), this explores a complex accrual of meanings: blood as life-giving; blood as emblematic of death; and, paradoxically, Christ's shed blood as promising salvation from destruction, resurrection from death. To be read reflectively or studied theologically. EC
