Synopsis

The Yarn of the Mitten is a historical novel about Michigan's early settlers. It begins with a group of immigrants entering the Part of Detroit, follows them through a second generation, the Civil War and the logging era. It begins in 1837 when Ganus and Mina Michealovic step off the lake steamer Chippewa at the port of Detroit and builds to a trial which pits loggers against homesteaders in the state's northern section and an equally poignant struggle between a young Michigander wearing Union blue and his friend from the hills of Tennessee wearing Confederate grey."

About the Author

Long time resident of Lansing, Michigan, Mr. Jessop developed a deep love for his native state as a boy, especially its northern section graced by beautiful lakes, magnificent dunes and acres of pines. Better known as an artist and painter, his study of the state's history lead to the writing of The Yarn. He wanted to tell Michigan's story in a way that would be fun and enjoyable as well as educational.

Reactions so far indicate that he was successful. Those who have read it have been touched and inspired.
