Ken Huggins is Assistant Professor English at Monroe Community College near Rochester, NY. He has been a high school English teacher, trained college students to become teachers, worked in medical education, and been an educational consultant for many years. He is author or co-author of four books and numerous articles. With his older sister Judith Huggins Balfe (author of Passing It On and co-author of How to Pass It On) and other family members, he shares ownership in a summer house in Nantucket, MA, where they have been summer visitors for 50 years.
There are plenty of estate planning guides for those who want to crunch the numbers. But only Judy Balfe is bold enough to investigate the emotional strains that inheriting--and juggling--a summer house can place on families. -- Jay Akasie, FORBES (6/99)
This book is a tale of summertimes and their green paradises. Balfe introduces us to the playing...and the rituals...through which relatives are attracted to the same place year in, year out...Balfe's subtle description of familial loves and rivalries is embedded in the best intellectual tradition of classical theorists...This analytical as well as stylistic masterpiece illustrates the merits of a true interdisciplinary approach. -- Remi Clignet, Emeritus Professor of Sociology, University of Maryland
