About the Author
Barbara Barbieri McGrath was a nursery school teacher before she dedicated herself to writing children's books full time. She is the author of THE LITTLE RED ELF, THE LITTLE GREEN WITCH, and many bestselling math concept books. Barbara lives in Natick, Massachussetts.

Kindergarten-Grade 2-It's difficult to determine the audience for this concept book. Youngsters who normally might listen to a counting story may not be interested in the sports' rules. Similarly, six- and seven-year-old beginning players are probably past the counting-book stage. ESL students may be the best audience for this mixture. Each numeral (0-15) is accompanied by a rhymed couplet in large print. Occasionally, they lurch awkwardly in the cadence; others have forced rhymes. Smaller, italicized print provides the factual information. Gouache-and-ink illustrations are colorful and bright, filling entire pages, and serve to clarify the rules. An additional purchase.
