About the Author

Charlotte Warr Andersen is an avid and well-known quilter. A native Utahn, she was born in Salt Lake City and has lived there all her life. She learned many needle skills from her mother, but she considers most of her quilting skills to be self-taught or acquired by good observation. Having recently become an empty nester, she resides with her husband, Eskild, and two dogs, Hugo and Legion. Stitching a portrait is still one of her favorite pastimes. Reviews

The ancient needlecraft of appliqu? takes on a new form in the hands of Anderson. She begins by tracing dramatic, well-lit photos of her subject, then cuts and appliqu?s cloth to create somewhat realistic images. Her work falls somewhere between quilting and portraiture, with a little abstract art thrown in. Anderson expertly guides the student through photography, tracing, lighting effects, and the details of stitching eyes and mouths. Her "features" here also include those of animals. A fine follow-up to Anderson's Faces and Places: Images in Appliqu? (C&T, 1995).
