This user-friendly manual is an ideal resource for newcomers to Windows 98--and even for those who are still not very familiar with Windows 95. The guide begins with an overview of the major new features within Windows 98, which include mostly enhancements to Internet integration. A review of the Windows 95 interface--which hasn't changed much in Windows 98--is thrown in to acquaint novices with the visual aspects of the operating system.

In the second part of the book, the author walks you through the installation of the program and shows you how to use the control panel to customize Windows 98 for your needs. A chapter dedicated to system management and optimization follows, highlighting topics such as how to protect your computer from unauthorized use, how to maintain a central network of PCs, and how to access files remotely. The book covers other elementary subjects, such as how to locate and manage files and disks, how to print from Windows 98 (with sections as introductory as "What Is a Printer?"), and how to use fonts. Another section shows you how to use all of the Windows 98 accessories, from WordPad to Minesweeper.
